Spade was born in Michigan on July 22, 1965 and grew up in Arizona. He got his first taste of comedy while a student at Arizona State University, and was one of the leaders in initiating the sale of comedy tickets to live performances at the student union on campus. Since then, he has appeared on Saturday Night Live and in several big-budget movies, including Tommy Boy and Black Sheep with his late friend Chris Farley.
