DC United Schedule in 2014

DC United is ready to show that they're one of the best teams in Major League Soccer as they face off with some of the toughest opponents in the league. United plays in the Eastern Conference of the league, and the East has some of the best teams you'll find in North American soccer. United had a tough season in 2013, but the team is off to a great start in 2014. DC United is hoping to sustain their high level of play this season so they can make the postseason.

United got a big win earlier this season when they took down FC Dallas by a score of 4-1 in April 26th. Dallas is looking strong this season, so such a big victory was one heck of a statement for this resurgent United team. United will look to keep on racking up the wins as they face some of the top teams in the conference.

United will certainly look to give Sporting Kansas City a game when the reigning MLS Cup Champions come to town this season on October 3rd. Kansas City has some great athletes on their roster, and any game against them is going to be a challenge, but United will hit the field with a ferocity that could overwhelm even the best of teams. There are a multitude of other great matchups to be held at RFK Stadium this season, so check out the schedule.

DC United History

DC United made history with the Major League Soccer upon the inception of the MLS in 1996, becoming one of the original ten charter teams to play major league soccer in the United States. United was one of the dominant teams in the MLS from the get-go, winning the first-ever MLS Cup in 1996 and posting a repeat performance in 1997. United also won the MLS Cup in 1999 and 2004, and has taken home the Supporters' Shield in 1997, 1999, 2006 and 2007. United also has a heavy international presence, competing in the CONCACAF Champions' Cup and CONCACAF Champions League in the 90s and even winning the CONCACAF Champions' Cup in 1998. The United play home games at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington DC, a stadium which boasts a capacity of 45,596 and fills up seats to that number whenever United plays big time rivals like the New York Red Bulls at home. DC United has taken home several MLS Eastern Conference championship titles over the years, including regular season conference championships in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2006 and 2007, as well as playoff titles in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2004.

Other teams that duke it out with the United for the Eastern Conference championship annually include the Chicago Fire, Houston Dynamo, Montreal Impact, Philadelphia Union and Toronto FC. Be there to witness all of the amazing action live and in person this season.

DC United Trivia

Who is currently the head coach of DC United?

The answer is Ben Olsen, who is looking to head United to a huge season in 2014. The organization is hoping that Olsen can provide the team with the kind of leadership that it needs to make it all the way to the MLS Cup this season.

DC United Fans

DC United has a group of fans whose passion may be unparalleled, and these fans love to catch a good rivalry game in person. When it comes to Eastern Conference competition in the MLS, one of the most deep-rooted rivalries is between DC United and the nearby New York Red Bulls. Both charter teams of the original MLS that joined the league with its inception in 1996, the Red Bulls and United have had several chances to face each other on the turf. The two teams vie for the annual Atlantic Cup, which is always a game that the fans turn out for in big numbers. United has also been a big rival of the Philadelphia Union ever since the Union's MLS debut in 2010, and these two teams offer soccer fans some of the most anticipated athletic entertainment in the Eastern Conference of the MLS on a yearly basis. Outside of the Major League Soccer, DC United has also struck up a rivalry with the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer Leagues, and these two soccer teams play each other every year for bragging rights in the Coffee Pot Cup.
