Del Mar Racing
This is just one of those events that you absolutely need to see for yourself if you want to have
any idea of why there is such a buzz around the race track from one event to the next. Del Mar, California, right on the coast
in northern San Diego, is known for its scenic beauty and for having the perfect atmosphere for a big horse race, which is
why it's become a staple of the horse racing circuit over the years. Come out and watch some of the top horses in the world
kick it into high gear and gun it for the finish line and you'll understand loud and clear why horse racing remains a timeless
tradition in the U.S., with the atmosphere really coming together at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
Though there are lots
of other sports out there these days, horse racing remains one of the top spectator sports for a reason, and that's because
it's a completely unique string of events that brings together great fans and world-class animals for moments of sports bliss
that you can't capture from home. Sure, you could try, but there is nothing else like when you're there watching your horse
turn the corner and sprint for a nail-biting finish.
Del Mar Racing Events
The Del Mar Fairgrounds is
home to plenty of great events throughout the year, but the buzz is never more electric than when a big horse racing event
is about to go down and the excitement level of the stands is reaching its apex. This is the type of sport that has an unbelievable
tradition that has been passed down from one generation to the next, and it remains one of those sports capable of capturing
the attention of the entire nation with just a single moment. Del Mar Racing is known for having the highest quality of horses
competing, giving you plenty of reasons to keep your eye on the calendar to make sure that you don't miss an exciting event.
one of the bonuses about the Del Mar Racetrack is that it even has more than just the actual racing. After being dazzled by
the ponies, you can catch a concert from a renowned band like Weezer, Counting Crows, or even Ziggy Marley. With other events
throughout the year that are fun for the whole family, Del Mar Racetrack tends to have a little something for interests of
all kinds, which tells you a little something of why it's become an iconic part of the San Diego entertainment scene.
Horse Racing Experience
Horse racing doesn't often get the same level of publicity as some of the other big sports
in the country, but fans understand what has kept horse racing such a fascinating and popular sport as soon as they hit up
the Del Mar Racetrack. In the era of high-def TVs and ever-present video footage, it can be common place to just catch a few
highlights and think that you got a feel for the sporting event, but there is still nothing that can compete with the experience
of actually being there. When you can feel the energy of the crowd rising in anticipation of an epic finale, you'll understand
what horse racing is all about, and will probably never look at the home-viewing experience the same way ever again.
Del Mar Racing History
Though lots of sports venues have cool histories, few can come close to touching that
of Del Mar Racetrack. Of course, it helps that it started by having Bing Crosby there to personally greet the first fans who
came to the racetrack during the opening in 1937, and Bing set the stage for decades that followed. Over the years the racing
experience continued to grow, with Seabiscuit coming in 1938 and plenty of other important races being run over the years.
In 1967, the track opened for 42 days in the summer and 20 in the fall for the first time, providing even more opportunities
for racing fans to see their favorite horse racing events. These days, it still doesn't get any better than watching the best
of the best battle neck-and-neck, giving you plenty of reasons to put down the remote and make sure you don't miss a second
of the action.
Del Mar Racing Trivia
Did you know that Gary Cooper was an original partner of Del Mar
Along with Bing Crosby and a few others, legendary actor Gary Cooper was one of the founding members of the
group that got Del Mar Racetrack off the ground in the mid-1930s.
Del Mar Racing Fans
With a private club,
a children's camp (for ages 5-12), early bird wagering and more, the Del Mar Race track is always the place to come and visit
on a warm summer's day, but you're not really going to understand that sitting on your couch in your living room. Thanks to
a capacity of up to 44,000 for the peak events, this is a racetrack that tends to have as good of a horse racing atmosphere
as you're going to find anywhere. In the crucial moments of an exciting race that has you at the edge of your seat, you'll
have a pretty good idea of why horse racing fans have been coming here for generations.
