The Del Mar track opened in 1937, with Bing Crosby opening its gates. Over the years the racing experience continued to
grow, with Seabiscuit coming in 1938, large stakes returning after the war, and a race by Crazy Kid, one of the fastest
horses from California. In 1967 the track opened for 42 days in the summer and 20 in the fall for the first time, allowing
its numbers one opening day and beyond to continue to shoot up annually.
If you want to take part in the annual big hat, sundress day, then you’re going to have to get tickets to see the
Del Mar Racing event. It’s a great outdoors event that the whole family can
get involved in, whether it is watching the horses race around the track, eat the food, drink the drinks or bet on a winner
– the Del Mar Race Tracks is the place to be! Running from the end of July through the beginning of September, it’s
a great summer treat!
With a private club, a children’s camp (for ages 5-12), early bird wagering and more – the Del Mar Race track
is always the place to come and visit on a warm summer’s day. Whether you are from San Diego or just want to come
