Since 1993 Delray Beach International Tennis Championship has been one of the premiere events of the ATP World Topur 250 Series men's tennis circuit. For its first five hears of existence, ITC was held at Coral Springs, but each year since 1999 Delray Beach Tennis Center has hosted the world class event. International tennis superstars like Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewit, Ernests Gulbis, and James Blake have all had impressive showings in the event over the years and the 2014 contest is going to featuer some of the most impressive names yet. The 2013 ITC saw Ernests Gulbis take home the singles championship while James Blake and Jack Sock won the doubles championship. Delray Beach International Tennis Championship ATP World Tour 250 Series

The ATP World Tour has been operating for 41 years and features the best men's tennis players in the world battling it out one on one and as doubles to earn the coveted championship. Offering 32 points to the singles champion and 24 for the doubles champion, Delray Beach International Tennis Championship is one of the most important of the forty events on the ATP World Tour 250 Series schedule. The 250 Series had its first season in 2009 and stands as the newest tournament series of the ATP World Tour. Tennis fans are always on the lookout for tickets to a big time event and Delray Beach International Tennis Championship has become one of the major draws of the tennis season. On both the singles side and the doubles side, Delray Beach International Tennis Championship features some of the biggest stars in the tennis world trying to get more points in their quest for an ATP World Tour title. Each year new and exciting rivalries pop up on the tour and this is sure to be the case at this year's Delray Beach International Tennis Championship. On the singles side in 2014 everyone is sure to have their sights set on Ernests Gulbis who has won two of the last four tournaments, while the doubles action will see teams from countries all over the world looking to take down the American side who have won four of the last five ITC contests. Édouard Roger-Vasselin, last year's singles tournament runner-up is definitely going to be a competitor to watch out for as he now has a taste of the championship match and will be looking to improve upon last year's showing which ultimately came up just a little short. There are countless competitors looking to prove their mettle at Delray Beach in 2014. As with every year, the 2014 Delray Beach International Tennis Championship will produce some new rivalries as big upsets take place and new athletes look to make their mark on the ATP World Tour.


Delray Beach International Tennis Championship History

In 1993 the first International Tennis Championship was held in Coral Spring, Florida and as it grew in popularity a new home was needed. Enter the Delray Beach Tennis Center, one of the premiere tennis compounds in the United States. The first Delray Beach International Tennis Championship took place in 1999, the same year the ATP World Tour 250 Series was created. The first singles winner at Delray Beach was Lleyton Hewitt who defeated Xavier Malisse. It was not the last Delray Beach would hear from Xavier Malisse however, as he would go on to win both the 2005 and 2008 singles tournament as well as the 2007 doubles tournament. Other multiple winners of the tournament have included Jan-Michael Gambill, Jason Stoltenberg, and Ernests Gulbis. 2014 could see another new singles winner, or it could possibly see Ernests Gulbis win an unprecedented third ITC singles title. Whoever comes out on top at this year's contest, you are guaranteed to see tennis from some of the best in the business.


Delray Beach International Tennis Championship Trivia

The first International Tennis Championship, held in Coral Springs in 1993, featured an all American singles final when Todd Martin defeated David Wheaton. In 1999 Lleyton Hewitt won the first Delray Beach International Tennis Championship and was the fifth straight Australian to win the singles title. On the doubles side, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan appeared in three straight finals, losing in 2008 but then winning back to back championships in 2009 and 2010. The tournament could be headed for another record setting year if Ernests Gulbis can become the first singles player to win three titles.
