The Denver Nuggets in 2013-14

The Denver Nuggets are not having the easiest time in 2013-14, adjusting to the changes the organization made in the offseason. The Nuggets had a very solid 2012-13 season, but made a coaching change in the offseason, bringing in longtime Lakers assistant Brian Shaw to replace George Karl. Shaw is trying to get this team over the hump this season, looking to bolster them to the upper echelon of the Western Conference. The Nuggets have one of the best point guards in the National Basketball Association in Ty Lawson, whose blazing speed makes him a blur on the court. Lawson had led the charge this season when healthy, but he's not alone. Denver is looking for some young players to take on larger roles this season, guys like Evan Fournier. Fournier has shown glimpses of star potential, and the Nuggets need as many player as possible to step up their games to help their point guard put up points.

The Nuggets will have a tough time making the postseason this time around, partly due to the fact that the Western Conference is incredibly competitive in 203-14. The West features top teams like Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs, but even the teams that will earn the last couple of playoff spots are going to be very good clubs. The Nuggets have been bit by the injury bug this season, and that has not helped either. Lawson has missed time, and the team simply can't afford to see him on the sidelines. There is no doubt that Denver will fight to the bitter end, and perhaps they can earn one of the final playoff seeds with a great run down the stretch. If they can, be sure to head to a playoff game at the Pepsi Center this postseason.

Denver Nuggets Trivia

Where did Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson attend college?

The answer is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Lawson played for the Tar Heels under head coach Roy Williams His three years at UNC were great ones, but none better than his junior season in which he led North Carolina to a National Championship. Lawson also won the Bob Cousey Sward as the nation's top point guard, as well as the ACC Player of the Year award. Lawson was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 18th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft and traded to the Denver Nuggets on draft night. A lot of draft pundits doubted Lawson's ability to succeed as a starting point guard in the NBA, mostly due to his size, but Lawson quickly developed into one of the top point guards in the league. Lawson is now the leader of this Denver team, as well as its best player.
