In the largely male-dominated rap scene, Dessa has made a name for herself as a female hip-hop artist who can hold her
own with the boys. A true triple threat, Dessa is a rapper, singer and producer, and her alternative hip-hop music has won
high praise from audiences and critics alike. Hailing from Minnesota, Dessa is best known as a member of the indie hip-hop
collective, Doomtree, but is also recognized for her spoken word artist abilities. Don't miss your chance to hear Dessa's
unique hybrid of hip hop when she performs live in your town. Her concert

Dessa Darling (as she is known to all her fans) was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota as Margret Wander. She attended the
University of Minnesota, where she earned a B.A. in Philosophy, and later worked as technical writer for a medical manufacturer.
It took her awhile to discover that her true passion was music, but once she did, she never looked back. Dessa forged a friendship
with Doomtree and started dating P.O.S. and eventually joined the group, even though her romantic relationship didn't last.
Since 2005, Dessa has appeared on numerous Doomtree's albums, as well as on the other members' solo albums. In 2005, Dessa
released her fifteen-minute debut solo EP False Hopes, which the Minneapolis Star Tribune named one of the top local
solo albums of the year. Dessa's first solo album A Badly Broken Code was released on January 19, 2010, featuring hit
single "Dixon's Girl" and "The Chaconne" and production from Paper Tiger, MK Larada, Lazerbeak, Cecil Otter and Big Jess.
The following year in 2011, Dessa released Castor, the Twin. Now you can listen to all her great songs live when your

In her spare time, Dessa pursues her other creative passion. She is a published non-fiction author, for example, and her
fiction and poetry have been as well received as her music for their deep musings and moments of introspective clarity. Dessa
is also a founding member of The Boy Sopranos, an almost all-female a cappella group and teaches music at the Institute of
Production and Recording and the McNally Smith College of Music.
