Detroit Lions – Schedule in 2014

One look at the schedule for the Lions and you'll see that there are plenty of possibilities once again this season, but in the friendly confines of Ford Field and abroad against a plethora of other talented teams as the Lions look to make their move in the NFC North. Of course, it all starts with a Lions-Giants matchup at Ford Field on Sept. 8, which will have the eyes of the entire country on it thanks to it being the first Monday Night Football game of the season. Fans won't have to wait very long for another intense home game against a division rival, as it will be Lions-Packers on Sept. 21 as Detroit looks to give themselves an early start against their divisional foes.

There isn't exactly a lack of highly anticipated games after the first few weeks, however, as the Lions will take on the Vikings in Minnesota on Oct. 12 before returning home to square off with the Saints on Oct. 19. For fans interested in a little cross-Atlantic travel, Wembley Stadium in London will host the Lions and the Falcons on Oct. 26, bringing Lions football to the U.K. Following their week nine bye, the Lions will continue to have major challenges as well, as road games against the Cardinals (Nov. 16) and the Patriots (Nov. 23) will both test the Lions' ability to win away from Ford Field. The season will then wrap with a home game against the Vikings on Dec. 14 followed by road trips to Chicago (Dec. 21) and Green Bay on Dec. 28, giving the Lions plenty of in-division games late in the season to do some major damage.

Lions Team Info

The Lions haven't quite been able to put it all together to reach their immense potential, but a great draft could go a long way in helping that. The splashiest pick, of course, was Eric Ebron, an explosive tight end who fans think will create absolute nightmares and matchup problems for secondaries all over the league. But the Lions weren't done plugging holes and solidifying their roster, as they traded in the second round to snag linebacker Kyle Van Noy, a playmaker who is known for his ability to rush the passer on the edge as well as drop back in coverage – both being skills the Lions will welcome with open arms. Later in the draft, the Lions kept attacking areas needed for improvement, giving fans plenty of reasons for optimism.

Now, with Mathew Stafford slinging the ball all over the field and Calvin Johnson causing sleepless nights for defensive coordinators all over the league, there has never been a better time to get out and see one of the most exhilarating teams in the NFL. Johnson is the type of player who has made a reputation for himself as one of the most dynamic players in the entire league, and he's already moving up the record books with one unbelievable season after another. Add Ebron into the mix along with Reggie Bush and a quarterback with a rocket arm and now you have deadly matchup problems that the Lions will be looking to exploit all season long, making them one of the best offenses in the entire league.

The Experience

Seeing a National Football League game in person is one of the most coveted sports experiences that a football fan can have. There's something magical about Sunday (or Thursday/Monday) when the best in the game suit up to take the field for four quarters of a battle that will last in the hearts of the fans for a long, long time. When you're there in your seat in the stadium, you'll feel the incredible atmosphere in the air, one rife will excitement and anticipation. Come kickoff the roar of the crowd will take over, and you'll find yourself in a sea of fans that wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Detroit Lions History

Detroit Lions tickets have been on the market since 1934, when the Portsmouth Spartans moved to the city and renamed themselves the Lions. They experienced immediate success, winning the NFL title in 1935. They won additional titles in 1952, 1953 and 1957, setting the tone for a great franchise. Since the early days, though, the Lions haven't exactly been without their fair share of memorable moments, though they're still looking to get to the top of the league and take down that coveted Super Bowl title. Great players like Barry Sanders, Scott Mitchell, Herman Moore and many more have played for the team since their early success, and you never know who is going to break through to superstar status next for the Lions.

Detroit Lions Trivia

Do you know that Barry Sanders made it to the Pro Bowl every single season in his career?

Starting in 1989, nobody played the position of running back better than Sanders, who took the league by storm and was a nightmare for defenders for all ten of his seasons in the NFL. He rushed for more than 15,000 yards and scored 109 touchdowns rushing and receiving.

Detroit Lions Fans

When the Lions hit the field for an exciting game loaded with some of the brightest stars of both today and tomorrow as well as a new coach this fall, there is only one place to be, and it definitely isn't sitting on your couch watching on your disappointing little flat screen. Get out to the stands and be a part of the action in a way that you simply can't from your living room, as it's a different experience altogether to actually be with tens of thousands of fans. Just take a look at the schedule and you'll see plenty of opportunities to see the Lions do their thing this season as they look to light up the scoreboard and take the next step forward with their talented young team on the rise.

Ford Field is a great facility where you will be happy to bring your entire family to see the Lions in action, but don't take our word for it. With a high-flying offense featuring Mathew Stafford, Reggie Bush and Calvin Johnson, the Lions can score with any team in the league, making it always a great time to get out and show your support. As soon as you're there soaking up the vibes of a great game at Ford Field, you'll definitely understand why Lions games have a reputation of being the crème de le crème when it comes to sports in Rock City.
