The Detroit Pistons in 2013-14

The Detroit Pistons have had an up and down 2013-14 season, as the team has had a difficult time coming together on the court despite looking strong on paper. The Pistons had a busy offseason, and were hoping that some of their moves could help put them in a position to contend for the division title and a playoff berth. The Piston brought in one of the best free agents on the market in the offseason in forward Josh Smith, who previously played for the Atlanta Hawks. The team also made a big trade with Milwaukee for point guard Brandon Jennings, a player that showed flashes of brilliance in his time with Milwaukee.

Smith has struggled to play the small forward position, though, and the Piston have a crowded frontcourt with Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond in the fold down low. There were even rumors swirling around the trade deadline that Monroe could be moved, which would be surprising considering that he's a productive big man that is still developing. Jennings has become more of a willing passer than he was in his Milwaukee days, but he's still figuring out how to be a true floor general. This team certainly is not lacking in talent, and Drummond looks like a future star, but it's going to be difficult for this team to rise in the ranks down the stretch this season.

There is nothing better for a basketball fan than being there when their favorite team earns a huge playoff victory against a top opponent.

Detroit Pistons Trivia

Where did Detroit Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings attend college?

Trick question; Jennings actually decided not to attend college. However, since NBA rules prevented him from making the leap direction from high school to the NBA, Jennings decided to play in Europe instead. This was a trail blazing decision by Jennings. The point guard did not find much success on the court overseas, but his reputation was strong enough that the Milwaukee Bucks still selected him in the lottery once the NBA Draft rolled around. Jennings showed that he belonged in the NBA quickly, notching a 50-point game during his rookie season. Jennings joined the Piston in the offseason via a trade with Milwaukee.

Detroit Pistons Postseason History

The Detroit Pistons have been a part of the National Basketball Association for many years, and in that time they have had some incredible playoff moments that fans remember like they happened yesterday. With a lot of successful seasons under their belts, the Pistons have been to the postseason many a time. The Pistons have reached the playoffs by winning their division title nine times, which is always the most rewarding way to make the postseason. The Pistons have won their conference's championship seven times, five as a member of the Eastern Conference. The Pistons have captured the NBA title three times, including back to back titles in 1989 and 1990. Those Piston teams were led by head coach Chuck Daly and point guard Isiah Thomas, and revered for their toughness. Known as the Bad Boy Pistons, those teams were the biggest hurdle that a young Michael Jordan would face before finally breaking through and reaching his first NBA Finals by defeating Detroit. The team won their most recent NBA title in 2004, when they shocked a heavily-favored Los Angeles Lakers team that featured Shaq, Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone and Gary Payton. The Pistons are hoping to add another championship as soon as possible.
