Detroit Tigers Spring Training tickets - Tigers Spring Training Schedule

Detroit Tigers Spring Training Schedule

This winter can't come to an end soon enough for baseball fans all over the world who are suffering through one of the coldest winters in recent memory. Thankfully for baseball fans, there is always the trip to Arizona or Florida for the annual event that serves as the gateway to spring. For Detroit Tigers fans, a trip to Joker Marchant Stadium in lovely Lakeland, Florida means breaking out the shorts and t-shirts and heading to sunny Florida for some much needed sunshine and best of all, your first look at your beloved Tigers. The Tigers have been picked by many to win it all this year, but just like every team, their journey begins in March when stars and prospects alike take to the field in Florida to perfect their craft. For many big names, it is a tune up or way to shake off the dust of the offseason. For many others, it is a time when their careers are on the line, and an impressive Spring Training can get their name on the Opening Day roster.

There are a lot of exciting games on the Tigers' Spring Training schedule that their fans will not want to miss. Spring Training is an exciting time for fans, who are given the opportunity to get up close and personal with their favorite players. Joker Marchant Stadium is a very intimate venue compared to Comerica Park, so check out the schedule, where you fill find games like Tigers versus the Washington Nationals and their young stud, Bryce Harper. The Nationals are looking to get back to the playoffs this season and they have a roster stocked with talent that will be on display in their two remaining games against the Tigers in Spring Training. The Tigers will play the Tampa Bay Rays in their closing Spring Training game, a game against two teams who may meet again in the postseason. Both the Tigers and Rays are looking to have strong seasons, so they will get a good look at each other at Joke Marchant Stadium on March 28, the final tune up game before the teams head home to start the season. With lots of exciting games left of the stadium, Tigers fans have plenty of options left to experience the fun and sun of Spring Training baseball.

At Joker Marchant Stadium, fans are treated to an incredible venue for baseball, with every seat being the perfect one for watching baseball. Heading down to Florida to see the Tigers play Spring ball is the perfect way to get a first look at your beloved team and get a vacation. Don't miss out on the chance to put down the snow shovel and hang up the parka, and get down to Lakeland where the sun in shining and your favorite stars like Triple Crown Winner and MVP Miguel Cabrera, Cy Young Award Winners Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander and veteran Torii Hunter are more accessible than they'll be all year.

Detroit Tigers Spring Training Team

There is one glaring change for the Detroit Tigers this off season and that it has nothing to do with the roster. The Tigers longtime skipper, Jim Leyland, retired in the offseason, and the Tigers are going from a Hall of Fame caliber manager to a first time manager. They are now led by former Houston Astros great Brad Ausmus and the Tigers expect to pick up right where they left off last season. After losing in the American League Championship Series to the eventual World Champion Boston Red Sox, the Tigers made a few alterations to their lineup, including a trade that sent star first baseman Prince Fielder to the Texas Rangers in exchange for All Star second baseman Ian Kinsler. The move will benefit both teams, and the Tigers are eager to take the field with the current roster and lead the American League Central once again. Many young stars are looking to make a name for themselves this spring and they know that this is the time to shine. A veteran team like the Tigers will need an infusion of youth, so all eyes are on the youngsters who are in camp in Lakeland.

Detroit Tigers Spring Training Trivia

In 2011, Tigers ace Justin Verlander had a magical season, winning the MVP of the league and the Cy Young Award. Only 8 players in MLB history have achieved this feat and three are Tigers. Who are the other two Tigers to win both awards in the same season besides Verlander?

In their championship season of 1968, Tigers pitcher Denny McLain went 31-6 with a 1.96 ERA when he won both awards. In 1984, closer Willie Hernandez won the prestigious awards, both rare for a relief pitcher, after going 9-3 with 32 saves and a 1.92 ERA.
