The Dillinger Escape Plan was born out of a hardcore punk trio called Arcane. Friends Adam Doll, Craig McKeown, John Fulton and Chris Pennie-some of who were a part of Arcane-formed The Dillinger Escape Plan and began recording and performing together. The name of the band was a nod to the bank robber in the 1930s that was famous for escaping from jail. Now or Never Records picked up the band and produced their first EP. They gained notoriety during this time of exploration because of their hardcore and often violent stage performances. Because of their bigger-than-life performances, Relapse Records offered to sign the band to a multi-contract deal. The band agreed and released their next EP. Since then, they have released several more albums and EPs, and become a highly sought-after musical act in the hardcore punk scene.
