Dirty Guv'nahs Background
Hailing from Knoxville, Tennessee, the Dirty Guv'nahs
are not only a hometown favorite, they are also a topic of conversation on the East Coast. The band's members came together
when they met at the University of Knoxville. Ironically, not a single one of the band members planned on taking up music
as a serious profession. In fact, it was Justin Hoskins (bass) who promised that his "band" would make an appearance at a
benefit show for a friend. The catch? There was no band. So, Hoskins jumped into action and enlisted the help of James Trimble,
Chris Doody, Aaron Hoskins and Michael Jenkins. Trimble said, "We were four guitarists and bongos. I became the singer by
default. By the third practice, Chris moved over to keyboards. None of us had ever played in a band, we really didn't know
what we were doing." They pulled off the benefit show, which led to more gigs. Initially, they thought they would just do
a few chance gigs here and there. But, much to their surprise, they garnered a devoted local fan base. Likened to The Rolling
Stones and The Avett Brothers, Dirty Guv'nahs continue to gain ground today and have even claimed prime spots as openers for
the Levon Helm Band, Zac Brown Band and Wilco. For a band that originally pulled their group together on the fly, they have
managed to do pretty well on the music scene!
