About The Band
With the group officially forming
in 1999, Dread Zeppelin decided to take their ample amounts of talent and love for classic music groups and artists such as
Led Zeppelin, Elvis Presley, Bob Marley, and others by putting on the best shows around. And the group definitely has a draw
and appeal to bring in the crowds of people, as the group has more than just talent and skill to gain the attention of the
public. Fronted by a 300 pound Elvis impersonator that goes by the name of Tortelvis, the group has made a name for itself
as a wild cover band that performs with a rock reggae style. It was after their first singles were released to rave reviews
and success that they signed to a label and released their debut album, "Un-Led-Ed", in 1990. The band has gone on to release
fifteen more full length albums that span a wide array of artists and style but still keep the same talent, style, and tongue-in-cheek
humor that made them a success from the start.
A tough call to make, Dread Zeppelin
made a huge impression on the music scene with two initial singles and then a huge splash with their debut album, both more
than worthy of a mention. Their first two singles came in 1989 in the form of their own version of two Led Zeppelin singles,
the insanely popular "Immigrant Song" and the B-side "Hey Hey What Can I Do". This release was ridiculously popular and became
a huge success, warranting a massive repress of the vinyl that sold very well. It was after this release that they dropped
a few more singles and were signed to the IRS label in 1990, prompting them to release their debut album, "Un-Led-Ed", that
same year. The result was a large success, gaining praise from all over but most famously from original Led Zeppelin front
man Robert Plant, who actually claimed to prefer their version of "Your Time Is Gonna Come" to the original.
Before recruiting Tortelvis, the 300 pound Elvis impersonator front man of the group, the group known
as Dread Zeppelin used to be a completely different kind of band. Known as "The Prime Movers", this group was a semi-popular
band from the mid to late 80's and found moderate success in the UK with a slew of singles. In fact, one of their songs was
actually included in a movie in the 80's by Michael Mann called "Manhunter". This was all well and good, but upon the dissolution
of the band in 1989 the core members began recruiting for a new band and just so happened to find Greg Tortell (Tortelvis)
when he supposedly rammed a milk float into the back of their car. This strange incident of coincidental happenstance was
the beginning of what would be a long and fruitful career for the group and Tortelvis, as they continue to find success on
stages all across the country to this day.
