Durham Bulls History
When Kevin Costner and Tim
Robbins got together in 1988 looking to make a baseball classic, the Durham Bulls were the natural fit. Telling the stories
of ballplayers working their way through the Minor Leagues, "Bull Durham" didn't take long to become the classic Costner and
Robbins intended, with so many quotes that it's impossible to keep them all straight. These days, the popularity around the
Durham Bulls remains as viable as ever, as they continue to put on a show each and every season for the baseball fans of Durham,
North Carolina, a great little sports town that knows how to support the local teams.
Of course, it helps that professional
baseball in Durham began in 1902 (with the Durham Tobacconists) and has since gone through many name and location changes,
including a stint as the Raleigh-Durham Triangles. Today, the Bulls are the affiliate of the Major League Tampa Bay Rays,
a squad that has developed a reputation as being one of the best teams in the league just about every single year despite
playing in the same division as the Yankees and the Red Sox. Since moving into the AAA in 1998, the Durham Bulls have appeared
in the Governors' Cup, the International League's championship, four different times and you never know when they're going
to get all the way back to the top of the league.
