Eastern Washington Eagles Football Team Info
Roos Field (also called
The Inferno) is the home venue for the Eastern Washington Eagles, and has become one of the most unique and eye-catching stadiums
in college football. The stadium was originally constructed in the late 1960s as Woodward Field, but the name was changed
in 2010 to honor former Eastern Washington player and All-Pro NFL tackle, Michael Roos. The former Eagles player was a major
donor in the school's fundraising campaign to fill the stadium's field with red turf. Roos is just one of the many great players
who have gone on to achieve legendary status here at Eastern Washington, and the next superstar could take his game to the
next level at any point as this program continues to be a major component in the always very competitive Big Sky.
There may be all kinds of ways to keep up with the Eagles these days, but keeping up with a team
isn't exactly the same thing as actually experiencing the fanfare for yourself. When you're there with the rest of the passionate
fans getting ready for another epic clash featuring the Eastern Washington Eagles, you'll see that this is a sport that you
have to see first-hand if you truly want to appreciate it. Though the pros are fun to watch too, watching a big game when
it's only university pride on the line is something that you're not going to find anywhere else, and the intensity level you'll
experience will completely speak for itself.
Eastern Washington Eagles Football History
The Eastern Washington
Eagles football program has been around for more than a century, giving them time to build into a nationally recognized program
that is a centerpiece of the Big Sky. Before joining the now defunct NAIA, the team was competing independently and their
first championship appearance came in the late 1960s, becoming a full-fledged member of the NAIA in the late 1970s. But it
wasn't long before the team joined the NCAA and began competing in the Big Sky Conference. The Eagles have won more than 20
conference championships, with six of those coming in the Big Sky. With a great past loaded with memorable moments and big
wins, it's not a surprise why the Eagles are a staple of the Cheney, Washington campus.
