Best known as one of the prominent figures leading grunge rock out of the Northwest scene in the early 90s, Eddie Vedder has earned plenty of fans over the years who admire his work with Pearl Jam. But Vedder has recently embarked on his own. Writing the music for the 2007 film Into the Wild, Vedder has launched a solo career that's making waves. Growing up in San Diego's surf scene, Vedder turned to punk and classic rock as a teen before landing the role as Pearl Jam's voice and face. Pearl Jam went on to become one of the biggest alt-rock bands to emerge from the grunge movement. More than a decade after they were launched to superstardom, Vedder is still recognized as one of the prominent creative forces in Pearl Jam.
In 2007, Sean Penn's film adaptation of Into the Wild, a book by Jon Krakauer, included original music written by Eddie Vedder. The music was created almost exclusively by Vedder, and fans old and new heralded the folksy tunes of the film.
