Elise Testone grew up in Kinnelon, New Jersey where she took vocal lessons and honed her musical skills from a young age. After graduating from high school, the aspiring singer attended Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina where she earned a bachelor's degree in music. When her collegiate career was complete, she moved to Charleston to collaborate with other musicians who were performing rock, funk and soul music. While she was working on making connections with other musicians in the area, she was also writing her own jazz and blues songs, teaching vocal lessons, and performing regularly at restaurants and clubs in the area. She also gained recognition and accolades for her work with a band called The Freeloaders. The group won the Funk/Soul/R&B Artist of the Year award in the Charleston City Paper's Music issue. Her big break came when she auditioned for American Idol and was picked to go to Hollywood. The talented singer made it to the sixth round before she was eliminated.
