Elton John Background

Elton John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in Middlesex, England, where he started playing the piano when he was just four years old. After teaching himself how to play the piano, which would later become his go-to instrument, he started to receive professional lessons when he was seven, and not long after he became one of the most promising young musicians in the UK. When Elton John was just 11 years old, he won a music scholarship to the prestigious Royal Academy of Music, where instructors claimed that he was a "model student", as his phenomenal talent surpassed that of even some of the instructors.

When Elton John was 15, he started to gig at a local pub on the weekends, and he would play both classic tunes and original songs that soon started to attract a large crowd in the bar. He had worked so hard to jumpstart his music career that by the time he was 17 years old, Elton John had dropped out of high school in order to pursue music full time. He began playing with the group Bluesology and then shortly afterward starting writing for Liberty Records, where he would meet his long-time songwriting friend, Bernie Taupin. This dynamic duo is responsible for some of the greatest hits in music history, and their creative synergy is unprecedented. Taupin would pen the lyrics to a song, hand them over to Elton John, and then a phenomenal song would be born.

Eventually, the songwriting and composing duo began writing songs for Elton John to sing, and that helped launch Sir Elton John into the music spotlight. They cranked out one hit rock song after another, including smash hits like "Your Song", "Crocodile Rock", "Island Girl", and "Bennie and the Jets". Not only did Elton John start to create an impressive rock repertoire, but he also became widely known as one of the most fun and unique performers around. Throughout the '70s, John earned a reputation for his flamboyant costumes and over-the-top performances, and fans flocked to his shows just to see him in action. Now you have the chance to see the iconic Elton John in action as he steps out on stage at one of his upcoming shows.
