Essence Music Festival Schedule

President of Essence Communications, Michelle Ebanks, during an interview with Billboard. According to Ebanks, "We attract
those other audiences that love to be around African-American women…And with the excitement of the return of D'Angelo,
the appeal of Trey Songz, the appeal of a Dru Hill, men are very important to the Essence experience." At the end of the day,

About Essence Music Festival
original Essence Music Festival was intended to be a one-time event to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Essence Magazine;
however, the success of the event led to it becoming an annual happening in New Orleans. Although, following the devastation
that took play in 2006 due to Hurricane Katrina. During that time, much of New Orleans was destroyed and families relocated
to various locations with Houston being one of them. Instead of taking a year off, the Essence Music Festival decided to have
the event in Houston, Texas. The event that is happening in 2014 is expected to be one of the best, as it is the festival's
20th anniversary. There are a number of well-known artists that will be entertaining crowds across the five stages of the
festival. The layout of the event is designed to have one main stage that invites the top-billed headliners. The other four
stages are meant for the outstanding supporting bands that are lined up this year. The big name that will star on the main
stage is the one-and-only Prince who will play on Independence Day. Prince will be playing to support the Rebuild the Dream
Innovation Fund that promotes awareness and education of disadvantaged youth to learn the languages of computer programming
and coding. Prince is a singer-songwriter who is also a gifted multi-instrumentalist. His career includes 10 platinum albums
and 30 Top 40 singles. The main stage lineup also includes: Nas, Janelle Monae, Nile Rodgers, Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, The
Roots, Ledisi, Tank Lionel Richie, Charlie Wilson, Erykah Badu, Jazmine Sullivan, Jesse Boykins III, K. Michelle, Tamar Braxton
and Trey Songz. It genuinely is one top-notch main stage line up and the other stages will not disappoint either. The festival

Essence Music Festival Events
It is evident that the 2014 festival, celebrating its 20th anniversary is shaping up to

In 2008, the festival change productions hands and was the first time since its inception that
a new group produced the event. Rehange Entertainment, Inc., a company that was hired by Essence Communications that owns
both the festival and Essence magazine, now produces it. It led to a new stage being built to give the festival a proverbial
makeover. Stefan Beese designed the new stage.
