About Exodus

Exodus traces its beginnings as far back as 1980, with drummer Tom Hunting preserving through a severely porous band makeup that would shuffle through several band members before arriving at a semi permanent lineup in 1984. 1984 would be a big year for the fledgling metal band, as they released their debut album with the assistance of longtime friend to the band and sound engineer Mark Whitaker. The album would be a big hit, and the band was soon sharing the stage with some of the biggest names to ever grace the metal genre, including Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, and Megadeth. Exodus would ride the metal wave of the 80s and soon rose to become one of the most prominent and fundamental figures in the burgeoning thrash metal movement.

Record labels across the country were soon scrambling to sign Exodus, and the band signed on with Sony/Combat Records, where they would put out a steady string of heavy hitting albums. The band became staples of the metal scene, dominating MTV's all metal segment Headbangers Ball and touring alongside major punk metal band Anthrax. Their unstoppable momentum got them a record deal with Capitol Records, and the band would spend the early 90s with a continued stream of genre rocking albums.

Disaster would strike temporarily, with a short hiatus during the mid 90s that ended with the 1997 reunion live album Another Lesson in Violence. By 2002 the band's future was looking the brightest it had in decades, but the sudden death of vocalist Paul Baloff from a stroke would put the band into a precarious position. Exodus would bounce back with another lineup shift, and this newest iteration would continue to release music through the 2000s.

Keeping their signature sound going strong, the band preserved through the loss of vocalist Rob Dukes in 2014, who would be replaced by former vocalist Steve Souza. With their biggest and boldest lineup yet, the band is set to release their tenth full length album this October. Despite numerous lineup changes and difficulties over the year, Exodus has retained their signature metal sound that made them pioneers of the thrash metal genre nearly three decades ago, a position they continue to hold today with each new and exciting record release.

Previous Hits

With multiple decades of full length releases, Exodus' long and storied discography is best summed up by their 2010 release Exhibit B: The Human Condition. The album lit up Billboards all across the world, including hitting the top fifty in nearly a dozen countries and hitting #19 on the US Indie chart, as well as a strong showing on the Billboard 200. Under the tutelage of producer Andy Sneap, the album would receive rave reviews from critics as About.com and the Guardian, along with a 90% rating from AltSounds. The album would be carried by the hit crowd favorite singles "Downfall" and "Hammer and Life".

Trivia

In 2012, the band held a reunion tour in Oakland, California, in honor of deceased lead vocalist Paul Baloff. The show brought back a variety of Exodus' former members, including Jack Gibson, Rob Dukes, Gary Holt, and founder Kirk Hammett.
