Taelor Deitcher, also known by his stage name, Felix Cartal, started playing bass in the punk and hardcore scene at the
age of 13 while attending New Westminster Secondary School. The band was called, Dysfunctional, coined after a sticker they
found. Their sound was influenced by groups such as Anti-Flag, NoFx and Refused. While only in existence for a short time,
the band still managed to acquire a following in Northern Vancouver and played many venues all over Vancouver and surrounding
regions. The band released two albums, Bates Motel and Change Is A Good Thing, as well as an EP Free To Who? They broke up
in 2004. Cartal then became a part of a more progressive group, Orange Orange, which was inspired by Mars Volta/Pink Floyd.
Their album, Step Into Ecstasy, was released in early 2006 followed immediately by their separation. Simultaneously, Cartal
was experimenting with Cubase and Reason. Cartal was drawn to the energy of the dance scene and wanted to develop lively,
aggressive music that he heard in punk, but wanted to apply it to a different genre.
After registering at UBC and a couple of stints in bands, Felix Cartal began producing his own dance tracks. He was inspired
by local DJs, Paul Devro and Tyler Fedchuk. In 2006, he developed a following, surfacing on the international blog scene.
Just as his bass-busting tunes were igniting an Internet buzz, the beatmaker relocated to Scotland for a semester at Glasgow
University. He opened for MSTRKRFT on their Fist of God tour and also took the stage at huge festivals like Camp Bisco, South
by Southwest, Electric Daisy Carnival and the Winter Music Conference. To find out where Felix Cartal will be next, make sure
