Fitz and the Tantrums Background

Michael Fitzpatrick founded Fitz and the Tantrums in 2008, and the remainder of the lineup consists of Noelle Scaggs, Joe Karnes, James King, Jeremy Ruzumna, and John Wicks. After purchasing a Conn electronic organ, Fitzpatrick was inspired to pen the song, "Breakin' the Chains of Love", and when he had finished writing the song, he realized that he needed a band to bring his lyrics to life. Based on the recommendation of his friend James King, Fitzpatrick recruited singer Noelle Scaggs and drummer John Wicks, and shortly afterward the entire band lineup was complete. The band instantly clicked, and Fitzpatrick knew immediately that they had incredible potential if they combined their creative forces.

One week after their first rehearsal as a group, Fitz and the Tantrums performed their first live show at the Hotel Café in Hollywood. Following that performance, the band secured numerous gigs throughout Los Angeles, and before they knew it, this indie rock and neo soul troupe had developed quite a devoted local following. In 2009, they released their first EP, Songs for a Breakup, Vol.1, which helped them earn touring spots with bands like Maroon 5 and Flogging Molly, which gave them the opportunity to accumulate countless fans on the road. They performed everywhere from SXSW music festival to Jimmy Kimmel Live!
