Florida Gators Schedule in 2013-14
The Florida Gators are ready to chomp down on the competition this season as
they take the floor at home to host some of the top teams in the SEC, as well as the rest of the country. The Gators always
have one of the best teams in the nation, and have developed into a real powerhouse of a program in recent memory. The Gators
play in the always competitive Southeast Conference, and while the SEC is known for its incredible football it is also home
to some of the top college hoops teams in the nation year in and year out. The road to the top of the SEC standings is one
that is always loaded with tough matchups, and that is certainly the case for the Gators yet again this season. Florida's
home schedule is jam-packed with some of the toughest teams in all the land, and it's going to take some great basketball
to send those opponents home with losses. If any team can do it, though, it's the Gators, who have one of the best coaches
in the country in Billy Donovan. This should be a great season of Florida hoops, one filled with fantastic home matchups that
fans of the Gators can enjoy in person in 2013-14.
The Gators will face a tough test when LSU Tigers hit the court in
Gainesville on March 1st. The Tigers are always a fierce SEC opponent, and while they're known more for their football program
they're no slouches on the hardwood. The Tigers team will be looking to tear into the Gators this year, but the Gators crowd
is sure to be behind Florida in a big way for this contest.
The Gators will close out their home schedule this season
with the Kentucky Wildcats. This could very well be the best matchup of the season in the SEC, as these two teams are extremely
talented. The Gators will have to slow down big man Julius Randle if they're going to have any hope of earning the victory
in this one. If they can, it will be a fantastic home win to give the team some serious momentum as the conference tournament
Florida Gators History
The Florida Gators basketball program dated back to 1915 when the team
first took the court to compete. Since then this program has developed into one of the best in the nation, regularly fielding
one of the best teams in the country on an annual basis. The Gators have had a lot of memorable seasons over the years, and
the team captured its first National Championship in 2006, led by head coach Billy Donovan and the trio of Joakim Noah, Al
Horford and Corey Brewer. These three players decided to return to the following season despite major interest from the National
Basketball Association and backed up their 2006 championship run by winning the National Championship again in 2007. The Gators
have been to the NCAA Tournament more than 15 times throughout the rich history of this program, and are now regulars in the
Big Dance. The Gators have been to the Elite Eight more than five times and reached the Final Four on four occasions.
Florida Gators Trivia
The Gators have been to the National Championship Game three times, winning the National
Title twice. What year did the team fall short in the big game?
The answer is 2000, but the team was able to prevail
in 2006 and 2007 to win the National Championship.
Great Players for the Florida Gators
The Florida Gators
basketball program is one of the best in the country year in and year out, and that kind of consistency usually stems from
consistent recruiting. The Gators have seen some incredible players come through the program over the years, but perhaps none
more memorable than the trio of stars that helped the team win back-to-back National Championships in 2006 and 2007. Joakim
Noah was the vocal leader of those teams, and the center was an integral part of the title runs. Noah would go on to be selected
in the lottery of the National Basketball Association Draft, as did teammates Al Horford and Corey Brewer. Noah and Horford
have developed into two of the best big men in the pro game, especially on the defensive end, while Brewer has evolved into
a reliable offensive option and a very good perimeter defender.
Florida Gators Fan Traditions
Gators have developed a fantastic fan base over the years, especially in the last 10 years or so. Fans love heading out to
the arena to see their favorite players do their thing on the court, and that is not about to change any time soon. When you
head out to the game this season, you'll find yourself surrounded by some of the most passionate fans that have ever been
in your presence. Head out to a game this season to see what it's all about.
