The Florida Strawberry Festival dates back to 1930 when members of the newly founded Plant City Lions Club came up with the idea of organizing an event to celebrate the strawberry harvest. In 1948, the American Legion Post #26 helped to reactivate the Florida Strawberry Festival after a six-year hiatus during and immediately following World War II.
