Originally from Rabat, Morocco, French Montana was born Karim Karbouch in 1984. He developed an early passion for rap music. When he finally emigrated to the United States in 1996, Karim was quick to get involved in the rap scene in the Bronx. In 2002, Karim and several friends released a series of DVDs meant to display their talent in the world of underground hip-hop. He signed in 2009 with Konvict Muzik, but he left in 2011 when he signed to Bad Boy Records and Interscope.
