Future Islands Schedule
Fronted by Samuel T. Herring, Future Islands is a synth pop outfit that emerged onto the
music scene in 2003 with their unique brand of electro-pop music. Their sound has been billed as "terse yet passionate music
wrought from a stripped back palette." In an interview with Pitchfork, Herring said, "We consider what we do to be pop music.
It's our own twist on it, but we've always written songs about love and loss and nature, just real things - universal music
that's catchy and has strong chords. I definitely wanted to revitalize the live set, so there's some 80s R&B and punk
influences on there, but the album (On the Water) also has some of those slow bangers that define our band." If you've never
seen Future Islands live, now is your chance. The band has crafted a sound all their own that is worth clearing your calendar

Future Islands Background
Future Islands first took shape when the band members studied at East Carolina University's
art program together. Frontman Samuel T. Herring was joined by original members of the group, J. Gerrit Welmers, William Cashion,
Adam Beeby and Kymia Nawabi. The bandmates made their rounds on campus, playing as Art Lord & the Self-Portraits. And
in 2006, they went their own way but Cashion, Herring and Welmers soldiered on, taking the name of Future Islands. They also
enlisted the help of Erick Murillo (bassist) along the way. Before Murillo split from the group, Future Islands issued a handful
of cassettes, splits and CD-Rs. Murillo still maintained ties with the band, contributing to a couple of EPs and full-length
efforts. In 2008, it wasWave Like Homethat put them into the spotlight, which yielded several monster hit singles that helped
them to build a strong reputation. In Evening Airfollowed, dropping in 2010, taking their music to a whole different level
as Future Islands polished their eclectic sound. In 2011 they were at it again withOn the Water, broadening their playlist.
In 2012, Future Islands put out some tracks but remained under the radar until 2013. It was then that they publicized they
had inked a deal with 4AD. Their debut album under the label,Singles(2014), turned out to be an ideal illustration of the
synth pop genre. One of their major milestone moments was when they performed on Late Night with David Letterman. The band
played one of the album's gems, "Seasons (Waiting on You)." Letterman was blown away by the band, literally leaving him speechless.
