Galactic for originally formed in 1994 by childhood friends Robert Mercurio and Jeff Raines who had both moved to New Orleans from Washington, D.C. Inspired by the local funk scene and legendary acts like The Meters and Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the two decided to create a band that would encompass the rich musical history of New Orleans. The band was originally an octet, including singer Chris Lane, but soon the band became a sextet with no main singer. Since their inception in the late 90s, the band has released ten albums and collaborated with some of the best musicians in the country. They are known for including guest artists to their live performances, making each concert a unique experience.
