The United Kingdom band, Gallows, traces the footsteps of the Sex Pistols and reflects the social commentary of the Clash. The band was formed in 2005 after being influenced by early 1980s hardcore bands like Minor Threat and Black Flag. The band tackles intense topics like street violence, date rape and the effects of divorce. The band's original intent was to reestablish the philosophy behind punk, erasing the fashion hype that came to surround it. Gallows reinvested passion back into the punk genre by writing songs that avoided the topic of love but rather focused on confrontation.
Orchestra of Wolves was Gallows' debut album produced on a nominal budget in 2006. Word of the album leaked into the underground and spread to national press. By the end of 2006, the band's obvious UK underground support sparked a series of gigs, spanning local shows to supports with bands like Papa Roach and MC5. The Gallows crossed the pond in 2007 and performed an explosive show at SXSW in Austin, Texas. That same year, Gallows cemented a record deal with Epitaph Records.
