About Gareth Emery
Emery was born in Southampton, England in 1980. Electronic music would not be his first calling, initially favoring the piano
before learning to play the guitar in the England punk rock scene. Over time he would migrate to Manchester, England, where
he would eventually start his own record label Garuda. The entrepreneurial young Gareth would also run his own nightclub by
the same name, eventually making his first break into the mainstream in 2002.
Gareth would spend his early career primarily
with remixes, pioneering his signature style that Gareth himself believes escapes traditional labels. His musical style has
been consistently dynamic throughout his career, producing both remixes as well as putting out two full length original albums.
Emery has become a household name throughout the electronic music genre, and has collaborated with artists across the musical
spectrum, including Christina Novelli, Ben Gold, Lucy Saunders, Krewella, and Bo Bruce. He has also remixed an eclectic mix
of tracks, from Britney Spears to Labrinth to DJ Orkidea.
Emery uses various mediums to promote his music and better
connect to his fans. This includes his 2006 podcast titled the 'Gareth Emery Podcast', which received nominations for WMC's
Best Podcast award. He would follow up the success of his podcast in 2012 with the syndicated 'Gareth Emery Presents' on SiriusXM's
Electric Area, another success in his already long list of hits and accomplishments.
Emery first burst onto the music scene at the 2002 Mardi Gras festival in Sydney, Australia with his remix of The Shrink's
"Nervous Breakdown". The track would get broadcasted live at the festival and across BBC Radio 1, marking the first mainstream
exposure of Gareth's career. Released under the alias GTR, Gareth's second big hit that cemented his presence on the global
electronic music stage was "Mistral", which would come out later that year. The track would be featured in a set by established
DJ Paul van Dyk, and would get picked up by other legends in the field including Tiesto and Armin van Buuren. The track would
also receive critical acclaim from publications Mixmag and DJ Magazine, another sign that Gareth's star was on the rise.
wouldn't put out a full length album for four years, finally recording Northern Lights in 2010 which would hit #1 on the US
iTunes dance chart, as well as making rounds around XM radio. The album would be carried by "Sanctuary", a mega hit that would
again get attention from Armin van Buuren, and the album today remains Gareth's flagship venture into full lengths. Emery's
second full length Drive would drop four years later, another huge hit that would be carried by the singles "#U" and "Lights
& Thunder". Gareth would collaborate with a laundry list of artists on the album, making it his most dynamic yet.
bread and butter of Gareth's hits are released as standalone singles. "Concrete Angel", his most successful hit to date, would
feature Christina Novelli and garner over 18 million hits on YouTube. Other tracks include collaboration "Last Time", dance
anthem "Tokyo" and a remix of Britney Spears' "I wanna Go".
To promote his much anticipated set
at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, Gareth gave a fan a chance to drive with him to the
festival in a mustang. His Drive album featured the same car, and Gareth would give out his cell phone via twitter for a live
Q&A on the way to the show.
Emery first hit DJ Mag's Top 100 poll in 2006, charting at #34. His position would bounce
up and down, to as low as #7 to as high as #51.
