Jeffreys began playing Mahattan nightclubs in the late 1970s, pushing the envelope with his unconventional performances. He explored subjects like race relations with stunts like wearing blackface masks and performing with a rag doll named Ramon. Although he sang about uncomfortable subjects, audiences didn't seem put off by his antics, and began crowding the clubs to see him perform. He got his first taste of the music business when he started a band called Grinder's Switch with Woodstock-area musicians. They produced one album together, and disbanded within a year. But the experience Jeffreys gained from his time in the band gave him the confidence to pursue a solo career. In 1973, he released a self-titled album with Atlantic Records and later that year the record company put out a single called "Wild in the Streets" that wasn't featured on the album. This single was an instant hit, and is still the biggest hit for Jeffreys. The track got tons of airplay and became the unofficial anthem for the skate community. Wild has been covered by many bands including The Circle Jerks, Chris Spedding and British Lions. Over the next few years, he churned out more hits that topped the charts, especially in the European markets. He continued to write songs about race relations and his experience living with African-American and Puerto Rican heritage. After a brief hiatus, the talented musician began working on a new album and has now released his 13th album "The King of In Between," that fans everywhere can't get enough of.
