Gaslight Anthem Background
The current lineup of The Gaslight Anthem formed out of
the ashes of a band called This Charming Man. The band underwent quite a few lineup changes to the point where the band was
composed of Brian Fallon, Alex Levine, Benny Horowitz and Mike Volpe. At this stage of the game, the band renamed themselves
Gaslight Anthem. After the name change, Volpe exited and Alex Rosamilia joined.
The Gaslight Anthem released their first
full-length album, Sink or Swim, in 2007. It was highly praised by both mainstream publications like Spin.com and independent
music review sites like AbsolutePunk.net and punknews.org. The band's sophomore effort was called The '59 Sound which arrived
the following year. The album was rated as the No. 1 album of 2008 by eMusic and it also garnered high marks from Pitchfork
Media. In 2008, Gaslight Anthem contributed their own version of "God's Gonna Cut You Down" for All Aboard! - the Johnny Cash
In 2009, the band supported Social Distortion as they embarked on their European tour and they were also
revealed as a supporting group for The Boss himself at Hyde park Calling. In fact, Bruce Springsteen joined the band on stage
at the Glastonbury Festival in the summer of 2009. At the Hard Rock Calling festival in London, Springsteen again joined the
band on stage, with Fallon later on in the show lending his vocals to Springsteen's song, "No Surrender."
The band rounded
out the year by performing at even more festivals, including Pinkpop, Reading, Lollapalooza and Leeds - before stepping back
into the studio in early 2010. The bandmates composed and recorded the tunes that eventually became their third album, American
Slang. Handwritten followed in 2012. Their latest album is The B-Sides (2014).
Gaslight Anthem Albums
discography of the Gaslight Anthem is comprised of two extended plays, four studio albums and eight singles. The '59 Sound
album, their sophomore album, was the first of their albums to chart at No. 70 on the U.S. Billboard 200. It also made a dent
on the U.K. Albums Chart, scoring the No. 55 spot.
Their studio albums include: Sink or Swim (2007); The '59 Sound (2008);
American Slang (2010); Handwritten (2012); and The B-Sides (2014).
Gaslight Anthem Trivia
made British music history on August 6, 2008, when they were the first band to ever grace the cover of Kerrang! magazine without
the magazine having previously done a story on them. Kerrang! coined them "The best new band you'll hear in 2008." The Gaslight
Anthem additionally claimed the 2009 Kerrang! Award for "Best International Newcomer."
