Though he was born in what is formerly West Germany, Geoff Tate moved to Tacoma, Washington when he was just an infant. He would benefit from this move as he would grow up with exposure to the burgeoning Pacific Northwest metal scene. Queensrÿche had just formed in 1981 and was in need of a vocalist. Thankfully, they found a good fit with Tate and the group would go on to release their first EP in 1983. Tate would release a solo album in 2002.
