In 1978, the George Mason basketball team moved from the NAIA to the NCAA. Since that time, NCAA basketball tickets have been sold to the Patriots' home games, maintaining a significant chunk of the sports tickets market in the Colonial Athletic Association. They have made several NCAA Tournament appearances, but none more thrilling than the 2006 Final Four drive that will live on in college basketball history as one of the greatest Cinderella stories ever.
The Patriots and their fans will remember that historic and unbelievable 2006 tourney performance, as will any follower of college basketball, with great pride and fondness. It certainly would be unrealistic to expect anything close to that kind of a story this upcoming season, but that doesn't mean that the Patriots can't continue to improve their reputation and prominence in the CAA and in the world of college basketball.
