As a prominent rock and roll star, ever since he burst onto the scene with The Destroyers back in the early
1980s, Thorogood has made a considerable name for himself over the years, and he's still rocking the stage from town to town
like he did in the early days. Even though he's unlikely to play 50 states in 50 nights, like he did with the Destroyers back
in the day, Thorogood remains one of those musicians you need to see live sooner or later if you're a rock fan.
In 1974 George, Thorogood recorded a demo, Better Than the Rest, which scored him a record contract with
a major label but did not see wide release until 1979. His debut full length was his self-titled 1977 album which he recorded
with the Destroyers. A 1978 sophomore effort Move It on Over featured a cover of the Hank Williams song of the same name.
In 1979, he released the single "Please Set a Date" which featured his cover of "Who Do You Love" by Bo Diddley. From there,
Thorogood and the Destroyers would take it to the next level, starting on a variety of different popular concert tours and
helping to make George Thorogood and the Destroyers Household names.
During their 1981 U.S.
tour, the Rolling Stones chose George Thorogood and the Destroyers as their opening act and this helped the band gain some
major mainstream exposure. The following year their notoriety increased even more when they were chosen to perform as a musical
guest on Saturday Night Live and did a killer two song set. By the time 1985 rolled around, George Thorogood's "Bad to the
Bone" was a huge crossover hit and he was invited to perform at Live Aid which was watched by millions all over the world.
"Bad to the Bone" continues to be one of the most popular rock songs of all-time and has been used countless times in popular
culture – perhaps most notably with Arnold Schwarzenegger in James Cameron's action classic Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
