About The Artist

Born in 1949 Michigan, George Winston is a legendary pianist whose skills are renowned throughout the country, as he is responsible for a wealth of wonderful hits as well as charming cover songs. Piano music excited George from an early age, as he first heard the music for "A Charlie Brown Christmas" when he was 16, and promptly ran out the next day to purchase the soundtrack. He has since shown great respect for Vince Guaraldi and has composed albums dedicated to him by playing his music on "Linus and Lucy - The Music of Vince Guaraldi" and "Love Will Come - The Music of Vince Guaraldi, Volume 2", releasing in 1996 and 2010 respectively. But he first found himself recorded for John Fahey for the album "Ballads and Blues", which disappeared for some time but was later remastered by George himself to be released on his own label, Dancing Cat Records. He is responsible for a wide range of famous albums such as "Autumn", "Winter Into Spring", "December", "Summer", "Forest", and many more, all of which showcase his incredible talent, skill, and love for the piano and the music that he creates.

Breakthrough Album

With so many different albums and songs comprising an incredible discography, it might be hard to single out a single release that stands out as a breakthrough, as much of his releases are all stellar and well received. Even at the start of his musical career, George Winston was displaying an amazing amount of skill and an ear for music that few artists have attained, as is evident in his early works such as "Winter Into Spring", "December", and more. And while all of this are excellent releases that definitely showcase George's talent for music and the piano in general, nothing stands as well received and highly praised as his 1980 release of "Autumn". With a track list of songs that makes the listener feel like the music is meant for the night, Autumn quickly became one of his best selling albums. This was the breakout album that he needed, as his subsequent releases of "December" and "Winter Into Spring" were also incredibly popular with his constantly growing audience.

However, what people don't realize is that George puts his music first, and is well known to come out on the stage looking very unassuming, dressed as though he were just hanging around the house.
