About GHOST the Musical Indianapolis

The famous 1990 blockbuster hit Ghost has been transformed into a full-blown stage production, complete with music, singing, and special effects. Based on the film that originally starred Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze, and Whoopi Goldberg, the plot of Ghost The Musical follows the story of lovers Sam and Molly. After walking home to their apartment one night, they are attacked and Sam is killed. As Sam passes on, he becomes trapped between the spiritual world and the physical world. In addition to Sam's struggles, Molly is in danger in the physical world, and Sam contacts the spiritual medium, Oda Mae Brown, to help protect Molly from the dangers that lurk ahead.

Ghost The Musical made its debut in March of 2011 at Manchester's Opera House. Directed by Tony Award-winning director Matthew Warchus, the Manchester production included casts members Richard Fleeshman as Sam, Caissie Levy as Molly, Sharon D. Clarke as Oda Mae Brown, and Andrew Langtree as Carl Bruner.

From there, the show began its tour of London's West End, and finally opened on Broadway in April 2012. Since its inception, Ghost The Musical has captivated longtime fans of the movie, and also new fans who were entranced by the enchanting love story. The London production of Ghost The Musical was especially successful, and went on to be nominated for several Laurence Olivier Awards, as well as awards, including Best New Musical, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Set Design, and Best Lighting Design. Actor Richard Fleeshman ended up taking home the award for Best Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Sam. The Broadway production was also successful, bringing in three Tony Award nominations for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical, Best Scenic Design, and Best Lighting Design.

Ghost The Musical has quickly been recognized for its amazing use of special effects. During one of the ghostly sequences, Sam appears to walk through a wall. Much to the astonishment of the crowd, the on-stage characters engage in a number of mind-bending illusions. This breathtaking stage production has even captured the interest of famed magicians David Copperfield, David Blaine, and Teller of Penn and Teller, for its use of stage illusions and special effects. Thanks to stage illusionist Paul Kieve, Ghost The Musical surpasses what has been previously done in musicals. Paul Kieve served as a magic consultant on the set of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and his impressive work can also be seen in numerous stage productions, including Batman Live, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Back to the Future, Zorro the Musical, Arabian Nights, and Lord of the Rings.
