Grace Potter and the Nocturnals Background
Potter found her love for music at an early age. While growing up in Waitsfield, Vermont, Grace started to play the piano
when she was just seven. Thanks to her music loving parents who had an extensive collection of over 4,000 albums, Grace was
well educated about music by the time she was ready to go out and gig. After gigging throughout her teens, she decided to
pursue her education and went to St. Lawrence University in upstate New York. During an open-mike session, drummer Matt Burr
heard Grace's voice and immediately saw her star potential. The two became close and decided to form their own band, recruiting
guitarist Scott Tournet shortly after. After the release of their debut album, Original Soul, bassist Bryan Dondero joined
the crew to create a quartet. Shortly after Dondero's arrival, the band released Nothing But the Water, which met with much
critical acclaim because of its soulful, bluesy sound. Before they knew it, the band was being compared to mega stars like
Norah Jones and Janis Joplin.
In order to continue expanding their fan base, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals would play
up to 200 shows a year, becoming regular performers at major music festivals across the country. It was this hard work ethic
and their awesome set lists that not only earned them the adoration of fans, but also the respect of record labels.
they continued to become more and more popular, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals received many offers from major record labels,
with all of the biggest labels in music wanting a piece of Grace's edgy voice and the band's rootsy-rock sound. Because the
band prided themselves on their independence, they shot down offer after offer until Hollywood Records came along and wooed
the band into signing with them. After singing with Hollywood Records, they released their third self-titled album, which
topped music charts and thrust them into the international spotlight. Over the years, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals has
gone from a relatively unknown indie band to a huge commercial success, and the band is not planning on stopping anytime soon.

you know how Grace Potter and the Nocturnals decided on their name?
After Grace Potter and Matt Burr joined forces to
create a band, they started to brainstorm possible band names. They decided on the second half of the name being "the Nocturnals"
in reference to the long nights that musicians spend practicing and performing their music. The first half of the name, "Grace
Potter", is pretty self-explanatory.
