Grand National Rodeo History
The Grand National Rodeo is part of a county agricultural fair, with all the excitement
and nail-biting action of the professional rodeo, mixed with the typical Four-H livestock shows. First put together in the
fall of 1941 as a tribute to Will Rogers, the Grand National Rodeo didn't take very long to become a major draw around San
Francisco. This is a venue, the Cow Palace, that has hosted only the biggest and best events in the city for a very long time,
and the Grand National Rodeo fits in very well and continues the timeless traditions that have been passed down through the
generations. If you've never seen an amazing rodeo, it's hard to match the Grand National Rodeo.
Did you know that the Cow Palace was used as a station for combat troops during World War II?
a stroke of tragically bad luck, the first Grand National Rodeo was held at the Cow Palace just a few weeks before the attack
on Pearl Harbor officially brought the United States into the war. The Cow Palace was quickly altered to accommodate troops
on their way to the Pacific Theatre of the war and the Grand National Rodeo at the Cow Palace was suspended throughout the
remainder of the war. When the war was over, however, the Grand National Rodeo quickly returned, starting back up in 1946.
