Grant Park History

When the town of Chicago was being formed, the land east of Michigan Avenue became a vacant area that was turned into a park in the mid-1800s. It soon became known as Chicago's "front yard" and was manicured to be a meeting place for Chicagoans to meet and enjoy recreational activities. Today, it maintains that commitment, and includes performance venues, gardens, art work, sporting areas and harbor facilities. Grant has always been the site of important events, including Barack Obama's Election Day victory speech in 2008. But perhaps its biggest draw is the intimate setting for which music fans can enjoy their favorite artists. This park has seen some of the biggest names in music, past and present, and is sure to continue to be a hot spot for tour stops and music festivals. You'll be able to feel the history of Grant Park when you see a show there.
