The First Hall of Fame Tennis Championship was held in 1976 and from then until 1989 it
was part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit. From 1990 through 1997 it was part of the ATP World Series, then from 1998 through
2008 it was part of the ATP International Series before becoming part of the ATP World Tour 250 Series in 2009. The event
is held the week after Wimbledon, which has occasionally made it hard for the event to attract some of the sport's biggest
stars who are work out from the previous week, however several players are often willing to take part in the event as it serves
as a tribute to some of the greats of tennis' past. The event features a doubles tournament along with a 32 player singles
draw. It is also the final event on the ATP that is held on a grass court and the only grass court event held outside of Europe.
