Herb Alpert got his start in music at a young age when his mother taught him to play the violin. He soon took
up trumpet lessons as well, and he began performing at dances when he was just a teenager. After graduating from high school,
Alpert honed his musical talents while serving in the U.S. Army, and he even pursued acting for a short time. He later attend
the University of Southern California, where he marched in the USC Trojan Marching Band. By 1960, Alpert had begun his professional
career as a solo vocalist with RCA Records, recording under the name Dore Alpert.
In 1962, Alpert had one of his first
hits with the song, "The Lonely Bull," which he wrote after being inspired while watching a bullfight in Mexico. The song
peaked at the number 6 position on the charts. He later released the album, "The Lonely Bull," using the band name Herb Alpert
& the Tijuana Brass. The album was a success, and contained songs like "Acapulco 22," "Limbo Rock," and "Struttin' With
Maria." Herb Alpert's career took another turn in 1965 when he released his albums "Whipped Cream & Other Delights" and
"Going Places." "Whipped Cream & Other Delights" sold over 6 million copies in the United States, and was further made
famous by its album cover, which featured model Dolores Erickson wearing what appeared to be nothing but whipped cream.
Alpert went on to become incredibly successful. By 1966, over 13 million recordings were sold, beating the Beatles and setting
a record in the Guinness Book of World Records for having five albums in the Top 20 of the Billboard Pop Album chart at the
