Herbie Hancock tickets - Herbie Hancock Tour

Herbie Hancock Schedule

Herbie Hancock is a living music legend who has remastered the jazz genre over the decades. Celebrated for his works of genius both as a soloist and as a collaborator with music hero, Miles Davis, Hancock's masterpieces have stood the test of time. His efforts are driven by his philosophy:"The thing that keeps jazz alive, even if it's under the radar, is that it is so free and so open to not only lend its influence to other genres, but to borrow and be influenced by other genres. That's the way it breathes."

You can catch this prolific Grammy Award winner and virtuoso at places like the Hollywood Bowl in Hollywood, California; and Chan Centere for the Performing Arts in Vancouver, British Columbia. To keep tabs on all of Herbie Hancock's music, sign up for event updates right here through StubHub.

Herbie Hancock Background

Herbert Jeffrey Hancock took up the piano at the tender age of seven in his native Chicago, Illinois. Hancock displayed such promise that just a few years later he was playing Mozart with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The virtuoso continued to pursue music in high school as well but after graduation, he majored in electrical engineering at Grinnell College to concentrate on what he thought was a more practical career. But Hancock eventually decided to study music composition. He established his own band and picked up and relocated to the Big Apple to gig with Donald Byrd, trumpeter. Eventually, Hancock inked a record contract with Blue Note and issued his first album, Takin' Off. Hancock went on to compose "Maiden Voyage" and "Cantaloupe Island" and gigged with Miles Davis. Hancock worked with Davis for many years as part of Davis' group. The two established a mutual admiration society, inspiring each other's sound.

Hancock continued to cement his reputation as an extraordinary songwriter, who transcended genre boundaries. He wasn't afraid to color outside of the lines of jazz and dabbled in hip-hop and R&B. Evidence of his willingness to try new things was embodied in his works Mwandishi (1970) and Head Hunters (1973).

Hancock is additionally recognized for his contributions to film and TV. He wrote the music for the popular Fat Albert cartoon, featuring Bill Cosby. He also penned the scores for films like Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling (1986).
