August 15 to 18 in 1969 was a magic time to be alive—especially if you had heard about a little-publicized rock concert that was going to be happening in a small farming town in upstate New York. Of course, the concert in question turned out to be a kind of cultural flashpoint, when some of the greatest artists of the 1960s performed at Woodstock, drawing counter-culture types from across the country.
