Holy Ghost Tent Revival Background
Ghost Tent Revival took root in 2007 in North Carolina. Original members, Matt Martin (lead guitar, vocals) and Stephen Murray
(vocals, guitar) started penning music together when they were both working on earning their degrees in acting at Greensboro
College. When they first started writing songs together, it was a relaxed thing, but it didn't take long for them to add more
players, including Josh Lovings (trumpet) and Hank Widmer (trombone, clarinet). They made the rounds on campus, enlisting
the help of PJ Leslie (bass) and Ross Montsinger (drums). Performing with a revolving lineup over a span of several years,
the band added in piano to the instrumental mix. They launched a tour in 2007 after most of the band's members had graduated.
By the close of 2008, their first album arrived titled, So Long I Screamed. Allmusic gave the album 4/5, saying that "the
songs, although they initially seem like loosely constructed affairs, are actually tightly crafted pop gems with timeless
melodies, great harmonies and subject matter that more often than not circles around the craziness of love, all delivered
with an immediate and organic rush of joy."
An exhaustive tour schedule followed, with the band playing close to 300
shows yearly throughout 2009 and 2010. Festivals included Floyd Fest, Bristol Rhythm & Roots, Wakarusa and Shakori Hills
Grassroots Festival. Family, the group's first EP, dropped in the fall of 2009. Their other albums that followed included:
Northbound at Southpaw (2010); Sweat Like The Old Days (2012); Alive at the Southern (2013); and The Blood Beneath (2013).
Right State of Mind is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2014. Their latest effort explores themes like dissension,
moving forward after a loss of a loved one and more.
