2014 Houston Cougars Football Schedule

The American Athletic Conference is never lacking in big-time matchups from one season to the next, and you can count on the Houston Cougars to be right in the thick of the action all year long as they look to pile up the wins and give their fans plenty to cheer about. When the Cougars are heading into an exciting match up against a prominent opponent, the buzz around campus will be nothing short of electric, making it always a good idea to get off that bar stool and head out to see the big game the way it was meant to be seen. One look at the schedule and you'll definitely see what all the buzz is about, as there are plenty of matchups that will create plenty of fanfare around campus leading up to the opening kick-off.

The official start to the 2014 season will take place on Aug. 30 at Houston Football Stadium against in state rivals the UTSA Roadrunners – a rivalry that is sure to bring in fans by the thousands to get the season started on a high note. Home openers are always exciting events but when you combine that with a meaningful match up against a bitter in-state rival, the game becomes that much more appealing. A Sept. 6 matchup between Houston and Grambling State will be another exciting home game and other home matchups that fans will have circled on their calendars will be Temple (Oct. 17), Tulane (Nov. 8) and Tulsa (Nov. 22), just to name a few. Then there are huge road games, with away matchups against BYU, Memphis and SMU for anyone looking for a little road trip to see the Cougars in action. Either way, there are plenty of thrills just waiting for you on the schedule, giving you lots of reasons to snag your favorite team gear and head out to see the big game the way it was meant to be seen.

Houston Cougars Football Team Info

Over the last several decades, the Houston Cougars football program has made quite an impact on the NCAA football world, with their best players often going on to star on Sundays in the NFL. The Cougars are coming off a 2013 season that saw them finish fourth in the AAC and be selected to participate in the BBVA Compass Bowl, where they unfortunately lost to the Vanderbilt Commodores of the SEC. This season, the Cougars have some new playmakers added to the roster and some exciting players returning from last season, which will definitely make them a tough squad once again in the AAC. In a season that is sure to have its fair share of twists, turns and nail-biting moments, the Cougars will definitely be a team to keep your eye on all year long.

The Experience

Sure, you could see a glimpse of the big game from your living room, but it's a different experience altogether to actually be there to see all of the action unfold. With a field filled with talented playmakers, you'll be treated to a top-tier sporting event that will be unlike anything else, so don't wait too long to start making your plans to join in the excitement in another hard-hitting season of action. No matter how many ways there are to follow the Cougars these days, it's not exactly a comparable experience to watch the Cougars from home on that disappointing flatscreen when you could actually be at the edge of your seat at Houston Football Stadium, where thousands routinely flock to the stands whenever the Cougars are gearing up for a home game.

Houston Cougars Football Trivia

Did you know that the Cougars have four College Football Hall of Famers?

Including Andre Ware, Jack Pardee, Wilson Whitley and Bill Yeoman, the Cougars have had some dynamic players come through campus, though few have been able to come close to matching the achievements of their Hall of Fame inductees. Ware in particular was nothing short of a superstar when he was on the field for the Cougars, as he won the university's only Heisman Trophy after dicing up defenses all season long in 1989.

Houston Cougars Fans

The Houston Cougars football team call Houston Football Stadium home, a brand new stadium that brings the tradition of yesterday with the modern amenities of today. But even though home games are an absolute must if you're a Cougars fan, it's also just as exciting to see them on the road, as you'll end up with a different perspective that could make you appreciate the Cougars even more. Either way, the new season gives fans plenty of opportunities to see some unbelievable college football as the Cougars hope to pile up the wins and make a big move up the standings in the American Athletic Conference. Though it's tempting to just watch the game from home or that bar down the street from your apartment, there's still no matching the experience of watching the drama unfold before your very eyes during the big Cougars' game.
