Houston Texans Playoff Schedule

The Houston Texans are looking to make a play for a playoff spot, which is never easy in the AFC. The Texans play in the AFC South division, and they're going to have to dethrone the Indianapolis Colts if they're going to finish atop of the division standings. The AFC South also features the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans, but those squads don't appear to be competitors for the divisional crown in 2014. The Texans don't have to win the division to reach the playoffs, though, as they can also gain entrance to the NFL's second season via a Wild Card spot. There are a lot of tough teams in the AFC this season, though, so Houston will have to rack up as many victories as possible to snag a Wild Card berth.

Houston has been solid in 2014, but they have not been spectacular. That is probably what prompted the midseason quarterback change, as the team decided to bench opening day starter Ryan Fitzpatrick for the strong-armed Ryan Mallet. Mallet steps in and is looking to lead the team to a great finish to the season that could result in a trip to the postseason. This team has a great running game and a defense that features some incredible playmakers, such as JJ Watt.

If the Texans can go on a run to close out the regular season, they could very well find themselves in the playoffs. Houston will have to face some tough teams in that event, and they'll need all the fan support they can get. The Denver Broncos again look to be a top team in the AFC, and they were able to win the Conference Championship last season. New England looks strong as well, as Tom Brady is in top for and seeking another trip to the Super Bowl. Whatever matchups the Texans face in the playoffs, be sure to be there to see all of the action for yourself.

Houston Texans Trivia

How did the Houston Texans acquire quarterback Ryan Mallet?

The answer is via trade before the start of the 2014 season. Mallet was drafted by the New England Patriots several years ago and spent his early years backing up Tom Brady. Texas head coach Bill O'Brien was a member of the New England coaching staff for years, and he had previously worked with Mallet. It was not a huge surprise when Houston landed the former college star, and Texans fans have high hopes for this youngster's potential.
