Humboldt Park

Humboldt Park History

Humboldt Park came to life as North Park in the 1860s on Chicago's northwest side as a parcel of relatively flat land. In the 1870s, a landscape plan was crafted, adding several lagoons and formal plazas. Eventually a formal rose garden was included and the lagoon was modified in the western part of Humboldt Park to more closely resemble a river running through a peaceful prairie. A pavilion and boat landing were added to the park, along with a music court for concerts in 1913. Today, the park named for German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, serves as the home to many events.Humboldt Park has hosted a number of high-profile concerts in recent years, including Riot Fest, featuring top-drawer bands like Fall Out Boy, Blink 182, Violent Femmes, Motorhead, Rancid, AFI, Sublime with Rome, Blondie, Public Enemy, Brand New Flag, Guided by Voices, All Time Low, Pierce the Veil, Taking Back Sunday and much more.
