Iowa basketball fans can rejoice to know that they're in for another year of the annual Hy-Vee Big Four
Basketball Classic. This event features the four major Iowa basketball programs, Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Drake
in a four-team tournament each year. 2012 was the first official year of this event, but it's essentially the games that these
teams would normally play against one another, just happening on the same day all under one roof. The games are held at Wells
Fargo Arena in Des Moines, IA, and organizers are hoping that it will grow into a tradition that the state of Iowa loves and
takes pride in. All of these Iowa-based teams have some fierce rivalries, as do any college basketball programs that call
the same state home. There have been some epic battles involving these teams in years past, and now fans know where to find
these games each and every season. Holding these games under one roof makes it all the easier for the fans to keep track of,
and the college hoops diehards get to see more than one game in person in a single day.
When you head out to this event,
you'll find yourself in the stands, cheering with everything you've got as you root for your favorite team to take out their
opponent with a combination of effort and skill. Collegiate sports are always special, because when you head to a college
sports event you're treated to seeing the best amateur athletes in the world. These student-athletes are always willing to
give it their all in the name of school pride, and that makes seeing them in person all the more thrilling and inspiring.
Don't miss out on seeing this basketball event this year.
The Hy-Vee Big Four Basketball Classic
features the four biggest college basketball programs in the state of Iowa, Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Drake. The
Iowa Hawkeyes are an old and proud basketball program that has seen some truly great players over the years. They have made
the NCAA Tournament multiple times and are always looking to take home the Big 10 title.
The Iowa State Cyclones claimed
their nickname when their football team shut out Northwestern University with a 36-0 victory. The day after the big win the
Chicago Tribune covered the game with the "STRUCK BY A CYCLONE - It Comes From Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town" headline.
The name has since stuck.
The Drake Bulldogs men's basketball team have been around for quite a while. The Bulldogs
experienced their most sustained period of success in the late sixties and seventies, but NCAA Tournament appearances have
been on the decline ever since.
The Northern Iowa Panthers basketball team was a big player in the NCAA Division II
Tournament in the '60s and '70s, honing their craft as they cut their teeth on some solid basketball action in DII. The Panthers
celebrated a Final Four finish in the 1964 NCAA Division II Tournament, and thereafter have made several more appearances
in the NCAA Division I Tournament. The Panthers were last part of the Big Dance in 2010, when they reached the Sweet 16 by
defeating the No. 8 ranked UNLV and No. 1 Kansas, making a name for Northern Iowa with some big upsets.

College basketball is one of the most popular
sports in the United States, and for good reason. College hoops fans are some of the most passionate sports fans you'll find,
and there certainly is something special about the sport that brings out that passion. One of the most watched sporting events
in the world is March Madness, which occurs at the end of every college basketball season. Madness is a good way to describe
that spectacle, and fans of college basketball are simply mad about the sport.
