Idina Menzel Background
Idina Menzel was born in Queens, and
she spent her whole childhood growing up in and around New York City—one of the major hubs of musical theater. By the
time she was 15 years old, Idina had become used to playing gigs at weddings and Bar Mitzvahs, where she constantly stunned
the guests with her high vocal range and incredible ability to hit every note. She continued playing gigs like this throughout
her college years at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. After earning her degree in Drama, she auditioned for
the rock musical, Rent. Because of her strong vocals and superb acting skills, she was cast as Maureen Johnson. The play debuted
off-Broadway in 1995, but because of its immense popularity, it soon moved to the Nederlander Theater on Broadway.
her great success as a part of Rent (which earned her a Tony nomination), Idina released her first solo album, Still I Can't
Be Still. She then spent several years wowing both Broadway and off-Broadway audiences with her unbelievable vocals, performing
in shows like Aida, Hair, The Wild Party, and More. In 2003, Menzel was cast in the Broadway show, Wicked, as Elphaba, the
Wicked Witch of the West. This role, where she played opposite of Kristen Chenoweth (Glenda the Good Witch), earned Menzel
a Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical. Being such an integral part of Wicked, which became one of Broadway's
most successful shows in history, launched Menzel's commercial career. Now, she not only could nab outstanding roles on Broadway,
but she could also transition into TV and film, which she did seamlessly.
In addition to her first album, which she
released in 1998, Menzel has also released two more solo albums: Here (2004) and I Stand (2008). Both albums met with great
critical praise and commercial success. Menzel, a talented songwriter, wrote almost all of the songs on all of her albums.
Menzel's powerhouse vocals have made her a force to be reckoned with in the music industry and the musical theater industry,
and her incredible songs will make you want to belt the lyrics out at the top of your lungs. Make sure you get to see Idina
Menzel showcase her out-of-this-world vocals when she heads back to New York to perform her fantastic songs live!
Some of Idina Menzel's biggest singles stem from her role on the show "Glee", such as "I Dreamed a Dream", "Poker
Face", and "Somewhere", all of which were recorded alongside Lea Michele. Idina Menzel's biggest hit is undoubtedly the single,
"Let It Go", from one of the biggest movies in recent years, "Frozen". This smash hit climbed into the Top 5 on US music charts,
making it Menzel's most successful hit to date.
Idina Menzel, while undeniably one of the most
recognizable names in musical theater, was not considered a household name until John Travolta disastrously flubbed her name
while introducing her on stage at the 2014 Academy Awards.
There are few singers in the
world that can hit as many notes as Idina Menzel can, and her incredible vocals have produced some of the greatest musical
theater hits and movie soundtrack singles of all time. Now you have the chance to witness her phenomenal vocals as she performs
live in New York, so grab your tickets on StubHub to see Idina Menzel perform before they are all sold out!
