The Isley Brothers' roots originate in Cincinnati, Ohio, where the brothers spent their childhoods.
The four elder Isley brothers, O'Kelly, Rudolph, Vernon, and Ronald, started singing in church when they were young, but eventually
decided to branch out and start performing together as a quartet. In 1954, the brothers formed their group and started performing
at a variety of churches across the country. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when Vernon died in a car accident when he was
just 13. The remaining trio was so devastated that they disbanded.
Several years later, the brothers decided to reunite
and continue pursuing their love of music. They headed off to New York in 1957, and by 1959 the group had scored a recording
deal with RCA Records, although they switched to Scepter Records a couple of years later due to unsuccessful albums. Finally,
the brothers scored their first hit with "Twist & Shout", which soared all the way to number 17 on the Hot 100. Soon after
releasing this hit, Jimi Hendrix signed on to play lead guitar for the band, and he is featured on the group's singles like
"Testify" and "Move On Over and Let Me Dance".
The Isley Brothers experienced major success in the following years,
selling countless hit albums and watching their singles climb the music charts. They even earned a Grammy Award in 1969 for
"It's Your Thing". This incredibly talented band is one of the best and most influential bands in music history, laying groundwork
for bands in a multitude of genres, from rock and roll to soul and funk. This legendary group of brothers has been a staple
