J. Geils Band
The J. Geils Band's roots date back to the mid-1960s, when John Geils, Richard Salwitz, and Danny Klein
formed an acoustic blue trio. The trio first named their group "Snoopy and the Sopwith Camels", and eventually the acoustic
blues trio evolved into a full-fledged rock band, infused with some cool blues elements. After changing up their musical style
and adding more musicians to the lineup, the group decided on the name J. Geils Blues Band, but shortly afterward dropped
"blues" from their name. In 1970, Atlantic Records signed the band, and the group immediately got to work on building their
repertoire of original songs. One of their first major hits was a cover of The Contour's "First I Look at the Purse", which
put the J. Geils Band on the map for many music lovers. Shortly afterward, they started churning out original hits like "Give
it to Me" and "Ain't Nothing But a House Party".
While the J. Geils Band experienced moderate success in the '70s, it
wasn't until the '80s that their fame really exploded. During this decade, the band cranked out hit after hit, such as "Centerfold"
and "Freeze Frame", and suddenly they were selling out concert venues wherever they went. After years of success, the J. Geils
Band disbanded in 1985, much to the dismay of their fans. However, the band reunited several times for reunion tours over
the years. They have played shows with bands like Aerosmith and Bon Jovi, and now the J. Geils Band is gearing up for another
round of highly anticipated shows this fall!
